Tone city, and looks to kill! Great bluegrass midrange with even better low-end body and crystal clear highs on this very attractive two-point mandolin.
We are thrilled to have our first mandolin from Columbia, MO-based builder Andy Poe. What a beauty to kick things off: a two-point body with Engelmann spruce top and Western Bigleaf maple back and sides, under a picture-perfect, honey amber finish.
Tonally, this two point combines the dry midrange, clear note separation, and strong projection of a great bluegrass machine with the increased single-string body and improved low end that we enjoy in some of favorite modern mandolins. It is a sonic formula that will find appeal with a wide variety of players.
The sound is matched by the exceptional build quality throughout. The ebony binding against honey amber is a brilliant choice, seldom seen. From the tonewoods to the details, everything is executed with great care and intentionality. Poe's finish work deserves particular praise. Even by today's exacting standards, this is rather impressive workmanship.
We hope this is just the first of more good things to come from Andy.
