A spectacular, modern F mandolin in a rare, natural finish, from a living legend of arched-top mandolin and guitar lutherie. Springy, super resonant, with sustain to rival any of the finest carved-top mandolins.

Why We Love This

While they all sound different from one to the next, the Monteleone mandolins we have encountered over the years tend to share a common sonic profile: clear, bold fundamental notes, spry, lively response, and uncommonly good sustain for a carved-top, f-hole mandolin. (Well, more svelt "s"-shaped soundholes in this case.)

Sure enough, this Grand Artist shares in those attributes and, frankly, excels in every dimension. The mandolin offers a wonderful, springy resonance, with a satisfying thump to low notes and a very nice, weighty air across the midrange and treble frequencies. The soft-"V" neck on a comfortable 1 3/16" nut width feels great under the left hand. For fans of a natural finish, the rarity of such an example from Monteleone should be the coup de grâce.

This mandolin comes to us in very good condition, with just some light wear to the top and reverse headstock. Please note: Used instruments are, well, used. We pride ourselves on thoroughly vetting, and carefully photographing, each preowned instrument we sell, but many of them carry subtle signs of handling that can escape even the most discerning eye. If you have questions about the condition of this instrument, we invite you to call us for an in-hand description. We're here to help!
