What makes this Lentz JR Reserve S-style a stand out? It’s one of the rarest we’ve seen – a Charcoal Frost Metallic S-style that’s a first for us here at the shop and a true showstopper.
Handcrafted with meticulous care by the Southern, CA-based father/son pair at Lentz Guitar, this guitar is built using cabinet-aged woods (25+ years, as is typical for Lentz), featuring a lightweight one-piece Ash body and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard sourced from stock dating back to 1915. The custom-wound pickups, 3-ply guard, and carefully matched electronics combine to deliver exceptional Strat tones – meticulously tuned and dialed in to perfection.
From the very first chord, this guitar's liveliness and quality is immediate and unmistakable. Few builders consistently create instruments that feel so alive, and as always, the elusive “Lentz feel” is undeniable. It’s hard to describe, but once you experience it, you’ll get why these guitars are so addictive and why they’re held in such high regard.
And when you plug in? It’s nothing short of stunning. At rehearsal or on stage, the tones are 3-dimensional, nuanced, and powerful, with tone controls that actually work – letting you fine-tune the guitar seamlessly to your rig. These are muscular sounding Strats, if you will. The bridge pickup has a touch of P90 midrange, output, and snarl, making it an outstanding pickup for overdriven tones (though it sounds great clean as well - think Tele and you'll be in the ballpark). The other positions on the 5-way switch deliver glassy, 50s meets 60s tones in spades.
This is a rare masterpiece from Lentz – alive, resonant, and a joy to play. Don’t miss the chance to experience it for yourself.
