Description

Koll’s Super Glide Almighty model represents the top-of-the-line offering from the Portland, OR company. This model masterfully blends both elegant and refined looks with a more primitive, crank-the-closest-Marshall rock n roll soul. From the custom knobs to the Euro strip MoP fingerboard inlays, multi-layer tortoise body binding (ivoroid on the neck), Gotoh open back tuners...there's just an endless amount of beautiful details to take in, not the least of which is the quilted big leaf maple top - and - the way the figured ebony fingerboard's grain matches the headstock veneer as it was cut from the same board (follow the grain pattern up from the fingerboard and you'll see what we mean).

The neck carve is a slightly chunky medium C carve, and it feels a bit like a cross between a Duo Jet and, say, a Les Paul Special (chunky, but without excessive shoulder). The action is nice and low and the Bigsby works perfectly. It's a loud, resonant, and alive instrument when played acoustically…

No doubt you're wondering about those pickups, yes? They are Aluminum C.A.R. pickups from TK Smith (who's work you should also be familiar with - look him up). TK himself says these are perfect for anyone playing traditional Jazz, Swing, Rockabilly, Travis picking or Blues. Mounted at the bridge position it’s perfect for that ‘Grady Martin' sound. At the neck, it’s a great pickup for Jazz, Swing and Blues. It has that distinct hollow, wooden, almost buoyant tone that floats so well on top of what a good rhythm section is doing.”

We really love the tone from the C.A.R. pickups - they're unique and unlike anything you're used to both tonally and output-wise. They're full, punchy, with a really clear top-end....a bit of an amalgam of all of our favorite pickups. If you're new to Koll, we'd encourage you to check out one of Saul's guitars. We have no doubt that you'll quickly see why he is so revered in the boutique guitar world. A true artist and master craftsman! Priced with a custom Koll Deluxe Case.
