While the inspiration for the Koll Super Cub comes from 60s American guitars like an Epiphone Wilshire, Harmony Bobkat, and Gibson Melody Maker, the Super Cub is a far more elegant build, though it still retains the feel and vibe of those classics. It's a design that lends itself to endless interpretation, our latest coming from a classic Gretsch place. 

Gretsch Orange always looks fantastic on Koll guitars and the addition of a gold plexi pickguard, TV Jones Classic Filter'tron pickups, and Bigsby helps to solidify the Gretsch aesthetic. While the Gretsch-isms, if you will, are on full display, this Super Cub has a few tricks up its sleeve with regards to how it ultimately plays, feels, and sounds - read: this ain't your grandpa's Gretsch. 

This Super Cub has slightly stout Gibson-esq feel - single notes and chords have a bit more 'push-back' and punch to them (think SG). The medium C carve (mahogany neck) is really comfortable and will appeal to a wide range of players, living somewhere between a Gretsch Duo Jet and a Les Paul Special. Coupled with the impeccable fretwork, this Super Cub plays great and has a fast and nimble feel. 

We tested this beauty out through a Carr Merc V, clean and overdriven. The TV Jones Classic Filtertrons are a great match with the Alder body - upper midrange chime and clarity mixed with humbucker-like punch, fatness, and output. This Cub is quite versatile, though truthfully, our gut instinct was to crank the amp, stop being precious, and just rock.That, friends, is the whole point here - these guitars are meant to be fun, and fun they are. From Saul Koll himself: "We wanted a thin, light guitar that's just plain fun to play." 

We've said it before but it's worth repeating - one of the reasons we love the Super Cub model from Koll Guitar Co. is because it's the type of guitar that reminds us of why we picked up an electric guitar in the first place. Lightweight, resonant and lively, the Super Cub embodies what makes models like vintage Melody Makers so great.
