After a six month stint with its original owner, this beauty of a custom-spec Tomahawk has found its way back to us! "Well why is it back so soon?" you might ask? Simply put, the customer had their sights set on a rare instrument, and needed to thin the herd in order to accommodate the purchase. We've all been there, folks!
It comes back to us in virtually the same condition as when it left. Let's revisit some thoughts from the original description back in 2021...
This Tomahawk Custom rocks a lightweight one-piece pine body with a beautiful acrylic tortoiseshell style pickguard, flamed roasted maple neck, indian rosewood fingerboard, custom-made half t-style bridge, and a killer sounding set of Davoli Wandre reissue humbuckers.
A first for us, these Wandre reissue pickups are accurate replicas of the super rare and valuable Wandre pickups that were made exclusively for the Italian guitar maker during the late 1950s through the 1960s. Tonally they sound like a beefier hum-cancelling version of an old Teisco or Guyatone gold foil pickup mated with a great Firebird mini-humbucker pickup, offering up a bit more power and pop in the treble. The telecaster-style half bridge was custom machined for this guitar, and delivers that familiar string-through feel, adding a bit more snap and tension to the shorter scale. This is a great way to take advantage of the short-scale feel while having a more stout attack that a string-through solidbody can offer.
The medium carve C neck - one of three carves offered by High Spirit - is not too dissimilar from the slim carve, but it does have slightly more meat on the bone and feels a tad fuller especially in the first position.
The aesthetic of this Tomahawk Custom matches the tone and feel to a tee. At borderline featherweight, you could easily handle those marathon gigs or recording sessions while also enjoying the "is it even in my hands?" element at home on the couch or in your music room. Like all other High Spirit guitars, it's just an absolute joy to play. What more could you want?
Here's a truly great second-chance opportunity to snag what is likely a one-off High Spirit build.
