A lightweight and resonant Grez Mendocino featuring a 1-piece hollowed Honduran mahogany body, Gabojo Labs pickups, and vintage-inspired tone. Duo Jet meets ES-335 in a bold, inspiring build.
If you’re into lightweight, resonant guitars with serious vibe and an eye toward sustainability, this Mendocino is going to speak your language. Built from a 1-piece hollowed-out Honduran mahogany body and mahogany neck, it clocks in at just lbs oz, making it super lightweight, perfectly balanced, and incredibly alive in the hands. Like all Grez builds, it’s beautifully made, with a chunky, late-’50s-meets-early-’60s carve that feels substantial without ever getting in the way.
What really caught us by surprise were the Gabojo Labs pickups. Handmade in Greece and new to our ears, they bring a fresh tonal character to this Mendocino, and sound open, chimey, and full of texture. Think somewhere between a Gretsch Duo Jet and a warm humbucker, with a dash of ES-335 "air" for good measure. Clean tones shimmer and bloom with ease, while a touch of gain pulls out that lo-fi, swampy character that’s just plain fun to get lost in.
If the original Mendocino won you over, this version pushes things even further. It's distinctive, dynamic, and endlessly inspiring. And if you’re picking up on some Collings Julian Lage 470 vibes, you’re not alone (though this is purely coincidence).
