Super warm, wide open, with a full, satisfying depth of tone on this stellar new F5 from a house favorite, highly regarded, local mandolin luthier. We don't often get F5s from Max and Lauri–this one is worth a listen!!
While Max and Lauri Girouard's As, two-point models, and larger mandolin family instruments have become mainstays here, they have been thrilling us of late with their F model mandolins.
This most recent arrival sounds incredible, thanks, surely, to some fabulous, unique tonewoods. The sitka spruce was sourced from an airplane saw mill in the Pacific Northwest, acquired by a violin builder in 1965 and stashed for half a century. The stunning, blister maple was an ever rarer find, coming from a 200-year-old Sugar maple right in Rhode Island.
Paired together, the result is a powerful, exceedingly open sounding mandolin, with a full , super-pleasing voice right out of the gate. An added bonus is the slightly wider 1 3/16" nut. For folks coming from 'teens-era Gibsons, or making the switch from guitar, that little bit of extra real estate makes for a very comfortable playing experience.
Ethan Setiawan's video demo shows a previously sold example, but offers a good baseline for what you can expect. While these Girouard F5 Concert models sounds killer on mic, the experience in the room is just as enjoyable. Call for an in-hand description or updated video content!
