Max Girouard has long been one of our favorite mandolin builders and, we can now say with certainty, one of our favorite mandola builders as well!
Why We Love This
We don't see too many of Max's mandolas come through the shop these days, so it's a real treat to have this one available! As with his mandolin builds, this mandola is lightly constructed and very lively; notes seem to jump off the fingerboard with little effort (playability is excellent as well), and it is very well balanced on the whole. The Red Spruce top lends plenty of headroom and punch while retaining roundness on the treble strings - nothing harsh or metallic here! As with all of Girouard's builds, this instrument has the looks to match its tremendous tone - a gorgeous variation of the "fern" headstock inlay graces the headstock, while a custom James tailpiece engraved by Weldon Lister balances out the bottom end. Handsomely finished with a hand-applied sunburst varnish, we think this is quite the mandola to behold!
Condition: About as clean as they come! This recent build remains in excellent condition; we're hard-pressed to find any notable signs of prior ownership beyond faint finish marks.
On consignment. Priced with original Ameritage hardshell case with Girouard logo.
Please note: used instruments are, well, used. We pride ourselves on thoroughly vetting, and carefully photographing, each pre-owned instrument we sell, but many of them carry subtle signs of handling that can escape even the most discerning eye. If you have questions about the condition of this instrument, we invite you to call us for an in-hand description. We're here to help!
