Description
The early days of the Gibson Custom Shop put out some incredible guitars, and this 1957 Reissue of the fabled 'Black Beauty' Les Paul Custom is no exception.
In what we'd consider to be one of the cleaner examples of this era we've seen to date, this R7 has all of the quality period-correct elements we love in a late 50s Custom. The larger, rounder neck carve that predates the 59 profile is full but comfy, with a nice taper up the neck. The original '57 Classic humbuckers have a wonderful PAF voicing with a robust low end and midrange response along with a clear top end.
Les Paul Customs have also earned a reputation for being a bit heftier than their Standard level brethren- it's not uncommon to see most of these weigh in anywhere from 9.5-10.5 lbs. This one surprised us coming in just a touch under 9 lbs, a borderline featherweight when it comes to Les Paul Customs!
As the vintage climate continues to rise, Custom Shop Historics prove to be more-than-worthy options for those wanting an authentic version of the uber-pricey 50s originals. This R7 Black Beauty is a reminder that it's still tough to beat a solidbody single-cut when they're as good as this.
Condition: Excellent+. Very little play wear, light pickguard wear with some minor surface scratches on the back of the body. Original gold hardware is clean with minimal patina. Frets are in excellent condition with minor wear through frets 1-4.
Priced with original Gibson Historic hardshell case.
