Description
We're offering up yet another early Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul, this time in an Historic R6 (1956) Reissue with proper period appointments and features that took the original 1952 design and redefined the solidbody's playability with an ABR1 bridge and stop tailpiece. Gibson really set the tone for these iconic reissues in first few years, and it's evident in this guitar what made them so special.
Made in 1996, this R7 features a one piece mahogany neck with full and chunky mid/late 50s carve, vintage spec fret wire set into a lovely rosewood fingerboard, and a gorgeous one piece mahogany body with maple top. The original Goldtop finish has begun to age quite nicely, featuring some light natural lacquer checking notably around the volume/tone controls and toggle switch.
Sonically, this R6 has all of the great tonal qualities of an early Custom Shop LP. The original P90 pickups provide plenty of presence and snap, with some satisfying midrange cut that doesn't get overly muddy. Plenty of definition in the neck position, with some fabulous compression and bloom in all positions. The guitar sounds both sweet and punchy, just the way a vintage LP would.
Condition: Excellent. Minor play wear throughout, with light to moderate patina on the hardware and pickup covers. Light lacquer checking around the toggle switch and near the controls. The frets are in excellent condition with virtually no wear.
Price includes original hardshell case.
