Masterbuilt by Greg Fessler, this double-bound '69 Telecaster blends vintage vibe, modern playability, and single-luthier soul in a guitar that feels alive the moment you pick it up.
There’s something undeniably special about playing a Masterbuilt Fender. One builder. One guitar. Every decision, from wood selection to fretwork to final setup, is made by a single luthier. It’s as "single-luthier" as it gets, only with a Fender decal on the headstock and all the legacy that comes with it.
In this case, that luthier is Greg Fessler, a Custom Shop veteran with over 30 years at the bench. Fessler has built guitars for legends like Robben Ford, John Mayer, Hank Marvin, and Joe Bonamassa, and you feel that pedigree the moment you pick up this Masterbuilt 1969 Double-Bound Telecaster.
Finished in a beautiful black nitro finish with just the right amount of wear (Closet Classic level aging), this Tele feels broken-in from the jump. A period-correct 3-ply pickguard and double-bound body deliver big vintage vibes, while the 2-piece Alder body keeps things lightweight and resonant. The quartersawn maple neck, carved to a substantial yet comfortable 1969 U (.85 -.91"), brings the best of vintage feel with modern refinements like a 9.5" radius and 45085/vintage upgrade frets for effortless playability.
Sonically, it’s loaded with Josefina Campos hand-wound pickups - a Twisted Tele neck pickup for warm, Strat-like openness and an Original Blackguard bridge for extra output, bite, and that classic Tele snap.
Add in vintage-style tuners, a '63 style Tele bridge with steel saddles, and Fessler’s nuanced aging work, and you get a Tele that feels timeless, soulful, and built for the long haul. It's the kind of instrument that feels alive before it's even plugged in, and only gets better from there.
