The term "La Cabronita" roughly translates to "The Little Devil" in Spanish, which tells you a lot about this 2009 Custom Shop Tele variant.
The Fender Custom Shop La Cabronita Especial was a limited edition guitar produced by Fender's renowned Custom Shop, with this example being from 2009. According to the FCS website, only 20 were made of each of the 4 colors used for this model.
Designed for players who appreciate classic Fender design but want something a bit different and unique, the Cabronita Especial features a lightweight Alder body, maple neck, twin TV Jones Classic pickups, pearl button Sperzel tuners, a chromed brass bridge plate w/stainless steel saddles, and a unique S-1 circuit (more on this in a sec).
These specs combine to deliver a classic feeling Tele, but tonally, we're in a different world - a world that's got elements of a Tele to be sure, but leans a touch into the hotter, snottier vibe of a Les Paul Special. Add a dash of the classic Gretsch chime courtesy of the TV Jones pickups, and you'll be in the ballpark of what to expect here.
The S-1 circuit, accessible through a clever integration w/the single volume knob (via a push/push button in the center of the knob), activates a tone circuit that changes the voicing of the pickups. When engaged, the tone gets a little warmer with an emphasis on the upper midrange frequencies. It's similar to a parked wah pedal in practice, which is awesome when used with some overdrive to help cut through a band mix.
