Few modern guitars can encompass some of those intangible vintage qualities quite like this 2006 Fender Custom Shop Chris Fleming Masterbuilt '55 Tele Relic. Fleming built one hell of a guitar in this Telecaster, executing a convincing aged relic finish combined with a light and exceptionally resonant instrument that feels scarily close to a 65+ year old Fender.
The neck profile on this guitar is outstanding, with a true nod to the mid 50s carve that was transitioning from a deeper U profile of the early 50s to a Soft V profile that would take over in '56. Combined with narrow tall frets, the playability is excellent without compromising too much of the vintage feel.
While it's certainly twang-worthy, these pickups provide great balance in response, making them suitable for anything from country to rock, R&B to western swing and jazz. A tremendously capable guitar, this Masterbuilt is another fantastic example of what a top tier Fender can deliver.
