This beautiful Artisan Tele finds Fender dipping into some very "un-Fender like" specs, yielding a great sounding - and looking - Tele.
We love seeing the Fender Custom Shop flexing their creative muscle and exploring ideas you'd typically find on small-shop / boutique guitars. Those ideas include the use of Korina, a P90 pickup in the neck position, a "flipped" Original Blackguard bridge pickup, roasted birdseye maple neck, half pickguard, and a small but meaningful tough - an angled 3-way switch.
The roasted birdseye maple neck sports a large C neck profile (.78"-.97"), 12" radius, and 21 6100/jumbo frets. In hand, the feel is somewhat Gibson-like, almost in the '58 LP reissue realm. If you're into larger necks, this one will be right up your alley. It's a cool touch since this guitar folds in some distinct Gibson-isms due to the aforementioned specs.
Plugged in, the bridge pickup delivers bold, jangly Tele twang with a fatter midrange while the neck P90 gets into Les Paul-like roundness. Either position works great when used with a clean amp or when you want to crank the amp into edge-of-breakup land. Fun stuff to be sure!
