A rare, cream-top oval hole that channels the vibe of a 'teens Gibson A3 with the power, openness and build quality of a top-shelf, modern mandolin maker.
Lovely, preowned cream-top Collings MT2O just in! Some twenty years back, Collings introduced an oval-hole option, initially just for their A models. It is a model that has become popular alternative to the ff-hole siblings that predominate today.
Inspired by the classic Gibsons from the 1910s, they feature a slightly wider, 1 3/16" nut width, but they retain the elevated fingerboard and scale length of a modern mandolin. The result is a powerful, very open and clear sounding instrument, with a prominent low end and strong sustain. It is a model that works wonderfully for all manner of folk, Celtic, classical, and roots styles.
We don't see very many examples with this beautiful, cream-top finish. Paired with the off white, bound pickguard, it makes for a very classy, timelesss presentation.
