This 1995 Collings Clarence White model has just arrived for consignment! Built in Collings' original workshop, and before the transition to the simpler "CW" nomenclature, this instrument exhibits the now-classic set of features associated with the legendary D-28 owned by Clarence White and Tony Rice (bound, blank fingerboard, enlarged sound hole, Dalmatian pickguard). Most importantly, however, it features Brazilian Rosewood supplied by Bill Collings's longtime cohort, John Holman; and no matter how many capital As we could put in front of "Brazilian Rosewood" on its spec list, suffice it to say that the rosewood on this guitar is 1930's-Martin grade (perfect color and grain structure, and more or less unobtainable in today's market). Simply stated, this is one of the best sounding Collings guitars we've ever heard, with power, warmth, woodiness, and depth you simply won't get in a new instrument -- all with the added openness and response only time can impart.

For a 30-year-old guitar, we'd call the condition of this one exemplary. While yes, it's been played, there are only a few small scratches on it. The original, thin lacquer finish still shines like new. And the original setup has barely moved a millimeter. Thanks to a fresh setup in our shop, it's playing beautifully and firing on all cylinders. We can't recommend this guitar highly enough to a Collings collector in search off a once-in-a-lifetime example of one of their Brazilian Rosewood dreadnoughts. And with comparable new guitars only appearing once every few years, at slightly higher prices, this one seems all the more a great decision given its amazing sound and condition. Priced with the hardshell case shown in our photo gallery.
