Quilt tops and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards are marks of some of the great early period Collings City Limits models like this one, finished in a rich Caramel color with grained Ivoroid treatment throughout.
Having an earlier City Limits build back into the shop like this 2008 Deluxe model in Caramel finish reinforces just how well Collings executed their popular single-cut right out of the gate.
This build features some beautiful Quilted Maple for the top wood with a rich Caramel top finish that really makes all of the grained Ivoroid treatment pop. A nicely figured Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is inlaid with the stacked parallelograms, now a signature of the Deluxe spec. The Lollar Imperial humbuckers bring equal parts authority and vintage warmth to the table, matching the dynamic acoustic response of this sub-8lb solidbody in convincing fashion.
Approaching its Sweet 16 birthday, it remains in very good overall condition throughout. There are various nicks, dings, and scuffs where you're most likely to find a guitar that's been loved and played over the years, such as the back and sides of the body, the headstock, and the back of the neck. The top is very clean, with just a few smaller dimples in the top that are well masked by the intense figured of the quilt. The frets are in excellent shape and have been cleaned up in-house for a nice, smooth playing experience.
We're not sure we can even get a build that quite matches the spec of this CL in 2024, so if you've been on the hunt for a primo-grade City Limits and don't mind some honest play wear, this one would be hard to beat.
