Another total knockout electric has arrived from the brilliant mind and hands of Maine luthier Laurent Brondel!
This new Honeycaster Hybrid is a model we're familiar with, having had a few of these come through the shop over the last few years. However, each Honeycaster that we see has a distinct personality the same way many of Laurent's acoustic builds do.
The essence of some of the best examples of early/mid 60s Fullerton electrics are present here, featuring an Alder body, Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard, and a combination of outstanding Ron Ellis pickups that cover immense tonal ground. In what we'd consider lightweight for an S-style instrument, it's incredibly balanced and resonant. The T-style bridge plate with stainless steel saddles and string-through body are certainly playing a role here, delivering some of that single-cut attack and zing. Plugged in, you're rewarded with equal parts articulation and punch, with an unmistakable clarity and openness that Ron Ellis pickups are known for.
The slightly larger take on a 60s neck profile feels super comfortable, and the fretwork is outrageously good. These necks practically play themselves! This is where we see Laurent's true craftsmanship come to life.
To top it off, the pickups and controls are mounted on a blisteringly hot Spitfire pickguard, an aesthetic that is truly tough to beat. It provides a stunning contrast to the aged Black finish and white plastics as well.
If you've ever wondered what it would like to have the comfort, playability, and versatility of a great S-style guitar paired with the unbeatable tone of a telecaster bridge pickup, this Honeycaster Hybrid will knock your socks off.
