Another knock-out from the good folks at b3 Guitars! This SL Custom, dressed up like a vintage Les Paul Custom, instantly conjures up images of Randy Rhodes and The Edge in our minds - arguably the two players most associated with a white LP Custom.
Biggest bummer with a Les Paul Custom? The weight. Those tend to hover around 10lbs, if not more, which is a bit much for most players.
Biggest surprise with this SL Custom? The lack of weight. Funny how you pick up a guitar like this, and based purely on the look, expect it to follow suit with its Gibson twins in the weight dept. What a shock to take this 6 1/2 pound (!!) stunner out of its case for the first time!
This heavily relic'd SL Custom, with its Strat-meets-Les Paul body, offers better balance than a Les Paul, a tummy cut, effortless upper fret access...all while sounding and looking very much like an old Gibson. It's such a joy to play and has a really comfy "Slim Jim" neck carve - a D shape that clocks in at .78"-.89".
Wired with a set of Lollar Imperial humbuckers, a two volume, one tone (push/pull coil taps), 3-way setup, the sounds are exactly what you'd expect - clear and articulate neck and bridge position tones coupled with a sweet, forward midrange puts you squarely in vintage Les Paul land.
Fans of Ron Thorn and/or high-end PRS guitars - take note and check out this killer SL Custom from b3 Guitars. You won't be disappointed! Priced with hardshell case.
