Instrument Care 101

Electrics

Whether this is your first guitar or your 10th, you may have questions about how to best maintain your new electric. A properly maintained guitar will last a lifetime and will ensure it stays in good playing condition, retains its tone, appearance - and - value. We’ve put together our top 5 essential maintenance tips to help make caring for your new guitar easy.
1. Proper Storage

When not in use, keep your guitar in its case to keep it protected from dust, temperature fluctuations, and potential accidents.

It’s important to store your guitar in a stable environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and sources of moisture or heat.

2. String Care

To help your guitar sound and play its best, it’s recommended that you change your strings regularly. How often you need to do this ultimately depends on how frequently you play, but a good rule of thumb is every 2-3 months or sooner if they sound or look dull.

3. Cleaning

Periodically wipe down your guitar with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints, sweat, and dust.

You can use either guitar polish or lightly dampen your microfiber cloth, however, do not use furniture polish as it can damage your guitar’s finish.
