When not in use, keep your guitar in its case to keep it protected from dust, temperature fluctuations, and potential accidents.
It’s important to store your guitar in a stable environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and sources of moisture or heat.
To help your guitar sound and play its best, it’s recommended that you change your strings regularly. How often you need to do this ultimately depends on how frequently you play, but a good rule of thumb is every 2-3 months or sooner if they sound or look dull.
Periodically wipe down your guitar with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints, sweat, and dust.
You can use either guitar polish or lightly dampen your microfiber cloth, however, do not use furniture polish as it can damage your guitar’s finish.
It’s always best to use your guitar’s case when transporting or handling your guitar to avoid bumps or drops.
Use a sturdy guitar stand or wall hanger when taking a break from playing to prevent accidents.
5. Professional Setup
At least once or twice a year - the transitions from summer to winter and winter to summer are good times - take your guitar to a professional luthier or guitar technician for a full setup. They can adjust the neck, bridge, and other components to ensure optimal playability, and, catch any issues before they become costly (a drying guitar can result in top cracks, bridge lifting, etc…).
