Why We Love This
For this year's Fretboard Summit in Chicago, Collings Guitars again presented several pairs of guitars featuring never-before-seen model specs and custom detail work hand-executed by their small team of master luthiers. The preeminent pair is this one: an AT-00 and C10 Deluxe constructed from private-stock flamed Maple and European Spruce. Both guitars feature Madagascar Rosewood bridges, fingerboards, and peghead veneers (the AT-00 also features a custom Madagascar Rosewood pickguard); and both instruments are fully bound in solid Walnut. These Fretboard Summit pairs represent a new & exciting direction at Collings Guitars: whether we think of it as a 'Custom Shop' or 'Luthier's Choice' program, these instruments are built outside the normal production process, with materials and conceptual designs only selected by the company's top brass. The question of sound is a secondary one when beholding these instruments. Do they sound incredible? You bet they do. But what's more important is the vision they represent for the future of Collings Guitars -- and the idea that Bill's commitment to excellence and innovation in guitarmaking is alive and well. Both instruments are priced with custom Calton Cases.
