"John Slobod is one of the few builders working today who can conjure the responsiveness of a great old guitar in something brand new."
Why We Love This
In the current landscape of guitar builders working the in the 30's Martin tradition, few are as universally lauded as Maine's John Slobod. His Circa Guitars shingle may not be the most popular one, but it's instantly associated with an impeccable standard for worksmanship and tone amongst the cognoscenti of this niche.
This is only the second OM-18 we've received from Slobod in the last six years. And while its looks are appropriately austere, its sound generates a now not uncommon reaction (many players in our shop often confess they prefer the sound of Mahogany guitars, even though the conventional wisdom is that Brazilian rosewood is king). This guitar has a slightly-less-stiff X brace than some of John's recent guitars, but it's still plenty responsive & powerful under a flatpick. The tone is perfectly clear, with terrific woodiness and punch.
But perhaps the best thing we can say about this guitar is that it's alive. Slobod is one of the few builders working today who can conjure the responsiveness of a great old guitar in something brand new. That's no mean feat. And if you're like us, and that's what gets you excited, we think you'll be completely taken by this wonderful instrument.
Please note ~ due to the limited availability of Circa guitars, our standard approval period does not apply to this instrument. We invite interested buyers to contact us for an in-hand description before purchasing.
