The Koll Duo Glide Black Dog is a one-of-a-kind show guitar built around Saul's dog hair finish - mahogany throughout, a Lollar P-90 and TV Jones T-Armond pickup pairing, and a Göldo vibrato that ties it all together.

Saul Koll's "dog hair" finish is one of those things that photographs well but has to be seen, and held, in person to be fully appreciated. Mahogany is the only wood that can carry it convincingly, and this chambered Duo Glide leans into that relationship completely: chambered mahogany body, mahogany top, and a hand-carved mahogany neck that feels broken-in from the first chord.

The top features a "primitive" unbound stamped style F-hole that suits the guitar's raw, characterful aesthetic perfectly, along with a gentle arm contour that makes extended playing sessions effortless. This guitar was made by Saul as a show guitar for the Fretboard Journal Summit in Chicago, and the level of care that designation implies is evident in every detail.

The pickup pairing is inspired. A Lollar Staple-Top P-90 at the bridge delivers real bark and twang - present, articulate, and cutting without becoming harsh. The TV Jones T-Armond in the neck position brings a smoother, warmer counterpoint that opens up a genuinely wide tonal range between the two. The Göldo vibrato completes the picture: silky, responsive, and comparable in feel to a German Bigsby B-5. It adds expressive range without compromising tuning stability in the way lesser vibratos tend to.

This is the kind of guitar that defines what boutique lutherie can be when a builder is operating at the height of their abilities - and given entirely free rein. Beautiful stuff!
