"It's my job to recognise the good tones and leave the bad tones out. If there are too many options, the bad stuff sometimes stays in, so we make our pedals without too many knobs and switches."
~ Harri Koski, Mad Professor founder (MusicRadar)
Mad Professor has been building boutique pedals and amps out of Finland since 2002, with a catalog rooted in dynamic, musical designs that respond to how you play. The Deep Blue Delay and Sweet Honey Overdrive are the pedals that put the brand on most players' radars, and both still earn their place on serious boards.
In 2024, the company passed to a new generation of Finnish owners with deep experience in pedal design and manufacturing, committed to keeping production and standards rooted in the Tampere shop.
The result is a lineup that covers a lot of ground - clean to overdriven, vintage to modern - without losing the touch sensitivity Mad Professor has always been known for.
Designed by a legend.
Mad Professor's pedal circuits were originally drawn up by Björn Juhl - the Swedish builder behind BJFE, whose hand-built pedals are some of the most sought-after on the boutique market.
The partnership was the whole point: a way to bring Juhl's designs to more players without losing what made them special in the first place.
Less is more, by design.
Mad Professor pedals lean toward fewer knobs and tighter ranges - each control covering the territory it should and stopping there. The result is a pedal that's quick to dial in on stage and harder to get a bad sound out of, which is exactly the point.
Two builds, same circuit.
Many Mad Professor pedals come in both factory-built and hand-wired versions, assembled at the Tampere shop. It's a rare offering in the boutique world - the same trusted design at two different price points, so players can choose the build that fits the board and the budget.
