We always love to think of a hardtail Strat as a Tele player's Strat- the string-through fixed bridge always seems to add more resonance and a robust attack often associated with Telecasters.

This '77 hardtail came to us alongside its Butterscotch paternal twin from the collection of an old defunct guitar shop in Vermont, and presents as an equally great late 70s example.

Everything about this guitar is original, from the black plastics to the stamped tuners and ashtray cover - that's right, the original ashtray cover! The electronics are also 100% original, and the guitar features the first-year original 5-way pickup selector switch. The slim C neck profile is nice and fast with a slightly meatier taper - closer to what we would typically see in a 59/60 carve.

The original pickups measure in the mid/high 5k range - bright, clear, and punchy with nice balance and fundamental pop. The 2 and 4 positions have that classic quack too!

For an all-black 50 year old guitar this is certainly one of the cleaner Strats we've seen. Light finish swirls and scuffs with a few dings here and there but nothing too substantial. The neck also has a few small dings on the back. All hardware and plastics are very clean. Original frets show some wear but are playable. The original Fender hardshell case is equally as clean and the original owner's manual card is still in the case pocket.
