All told? This one’s got 'it'. A fantastic example of what the Fender Custom Shop does best.

Aside from the stunning looks, the first thing we noticed when sitting down with this '55 Strat was the weight, or lack of it. At just 7lbs 3oz, thanks to a two-piece (off-center seam) ash body and plain-grain maple neck, it’s on the lighter side for a Strat (most hover closer to 7 ¾ lbs). Not bad, right?

Then the neck grabbed our attention. It’s an 11/56 off-center V profile that measures .87–.95", paired with a 9 ½" radius and 6105 frets. What’s more, it sports a full gloss nitro finish that immediately sets it apart from the vast majority of Custom Shop necks, which tend to lean into that sanded, satin, or “relic’d” feel. There’s a nostalgic charm to the gloss - it reminds us of the Fenders we grew up with in the ’80s and ’90s, before aging was the norm.

The first few unplugged notes had us grinning. That classic snappy, loud, and acoustically alive response you hope for? This Strat has it in spades. When you're cycling through guitars looking for “the one,” this is exactly the kind of feel we’re chasing.

Plugged in, that liveliness translates beautifully through a set of hand-wound ’55 Strat pickups. There’s a touch more Tele-like snap and twang compared to later-era Strats, something we love about these early builds. The tone is wide open, clear, and punchy, giving a nod to its roots ('55 being just the second year of Stratocaster production). Excellent stuff!
