Product information

This Schoenberg Soloist is from the first incarnation of OM's built through a unique collaboration between C.F. Martin and the Schoenberg head luthier at the time, Dana Bourgeois. The goal was to make an OM that incorporated the best of modern and vintage features, the cutaway being an addition that many players of the time were craving. Schoenberg's were assembled and finished in the Martin factory after having the key components constructed and, most importantly, voiced by Dana Bourgeois (and later T.J. Thompson).

This Brazilian Rosewood Soloist has all of the characteristics that made Schoenberg's so coveted: a very dry, brilliant and woody tone that is reminiscent of older Martins. They exhibit exceptional projection and responsiveness while offering a subtle harmonic overtone series. While no respectable luthier would agree to the claim of any modern guitar being as good as an original 30's OM, Schoenberg's were, and still are, the rare excpetion that come damn close.

This guitar just received a fresh neck reset, as well as a new bridge and saddle from our shop. The guitar sets up perfectly and plays easily up and down the neck, with a good of amount of saddle height remaining. You'd be hard pressed to find a guitar from this era that plays better.

The most visible wear are two cracks on the back of the instrument. Both have been repaired, and the cleats used to repair one of them are visible when you look inside the guitar.
There are also number of cosmetic surface blemishes - dings and scratches - that are commensurate with a well-played guitar of this age.

This instrument is structurally sound and, despite some cosmetic wear, sounds phenomenal and is a joy to play!
