Product information

This 1955 Gibson J-50 has recently come into the shop on trade. Over the past two weeks, the TME staff has been devising ways to set up a "tone share" with this guitar: it sounds so nice, several members of the staff are at odds over who should be allowed to take it home. The solution? None of us will get it on a permanent basis; and we'll be satisfied to spend a little time basking in its glory. Truthfully, this is a great-sounding example of a Gibson slope-shouldered dreadnought, regardless of age or cosmetic style. It's incredibly loud & open, with all the growl and thump one could ever demand, alongside a crystal-clear treble register. This J-50 offers the textbook Gibson tone, with the benefit of added punch under a heavy flatpick.

Condition: we'd call it very good "plus" overall. The guitar remains mostly original, but benefits from a new neck set performed in our shop, as well as new frets (installed elsewhere). There are no cracks ~ just the normal playwear and lacquer checking you'd expect to see on a nearly-70-year-old guitar. All internal components are original and in great shape. Price includes a contemporary Gibson hardshell case.
