Product information

TME is happy to offer this 1963 Gibson Hummingbird featuring rare Maple back & sides. This is a one-owner, family heirloom of a guitar, which the original owner's daughter had brought to the shop for setups and appraisals several times over the last five years. It's been lovingly played during its time in this world, and rings like a bell when played with a flatpick. A Maple Hummingbird (only seen 1962 - 1963) has a comparably crisp and powerful sound when played against their traditional, Mahogany-backed brethren. And if you like the detailed, throaty compression of a standard early 60's Gibson for recording and vocal accompaniment, a Maple Hummingbird could be your lifetime guitar.

This Hummingbird is in excellent overall condition for a 60 year old guitar. And we don't want to belabor any of its issues, since all its modifications were undertaken by the original owner in the name of routine maintenance. The original tuners have been replaced and are no longer with the guitar. The original bridge has been shaved down, but remains structurally sound. A clean re-fret was performed many years ago; and the frets retain plenty of life. We have done a basic setup, but have elected to let the guitar remain as the original owner left it -- any other work would be elective at this time. The guitar plays cleanly, with low action, up and down the neck. The sound leaves nothing to be desired. Price includes a 1950s Gibson hard case, the only one the guitar has ever had according to the family who brought it to us. The case is sized for a Jumbo and doesn't fit perfectly; Calton Cases or replacement dreadnought cases are available. Expedited shipping required at online checkout; please contact us for ground options.
