Some guitars manage to be both elegant and undeniably rock and roll. The Frank Brothers Arcade Thinline from their Brother's Choice series pulls that off without breaking a sweat.

It starts with the aesthetic - a lightly aged black top over a natural mahogany back, beautifully aged nickel hardware, and a clear control plate cover that lets the wood speak for itself. Look closer and the details start compounding: subtle Gretsch influence in the overall silhouette, a quiet Fender Easter egg in the knurled barrel-style volume and tone knobs, and a design language that is, at the end of the day, entirely its own.

The Frank Brothers has done something genuinely difficult - built a guitar that feels familiar and completely original at the same time.

Pick it up and the first thing you notice is the weight, or rather the lack of it. The bass-side chamber takes the mass off and opens the instrument up, giving everything a little more air and bloom even before you plug in. It already feels broken in.

Plug in and the TV Jones T-Armonds do exactly what you want 0 chimey, single-coil bark with a fat low end and a top end that sparkles without hardening. Roll back the volume and it cleans up gracefully; dig in and it bites.

The Medium C neck (.86"–.94") is the comfortable, unobtrusive kind that gets out of your way, and the Bigsby is set up well enough that you'll actually use it - wiggle it and come back in tune. Brilliant stuff!
