Product information

Yeah, it definitely plays and sounds as good as it looks.

The Dolphin '59 takes its visual cues from the Les Paul tradition but it's very much its own animal, and that becomes obvious the second you pick one up. It's a guitar that feels alive and luxurious in your hands, with a setup and playability that border on the absurd (absurdly great, that is). You sit down with it intending to noodle for five minutes and look up an hour later still going.

What's striking is that despite how impeccably built it is, the Dolphin '59 never feels overly polished or clinical to us - it simply feels refined and elevated. There's a real heft to it, a stoutness that grounds the instrument, and the sustain goes on for days even unplugged. The kind of detail work you only see from a builder who genuinely cares about every millimeter.

Tonally, the guitar tips its hat to both the Fender and Gibson camps without committing itself exclusively to one or the other. The coil-tappable Haussel humbuckers open up a wide tonal range, from punchy Les Paul territory to crisp, articulate single-coil voices, and everything in between feels useful rather than just available. Familiar reference points are there, but the Dolphin '59 isn't trading on them. It has its own voice and its own feel, and it'll surprise you more than once.

Nik Huber has once again built something that lands in that rare sweet spot of classic and forward-looking at the same time. Exactly what you didn't know you were looking for.
