The Grantura is for players who love what a 335 offers, but want more. More finesse. More feel. More from every note. And with this kind of build quality, it’s a guitar that inspires just by being in the room.
The Thorn Grantura MkII may take inspiration from the classic ES-335, but calling it a clone wouldn’t come close. This is Ron Thorn’s elevated, masterbuilt take on the semi-hollow formula, equal parts engineering marvel and musical work of art. Built using Thorn’s in-house pressed laminate tops, korina back & sides (w/tummy cut and treble cutaway rear hand contour), a lightweight kerfed spruce center block, the Grantura also features Ron’s signature dovetail neck joint for exceptional resonance and response.
From the moment you take in the Oxblood top, natural back, mother-of-pearl Tri-Crown inlays, and bound tort guard, it’s clear you’re holding something extraordinary. The attention to detail is striking, and it sets the tone for everything this guitar delivers.
But here’s the kicker: despite its visual perfection, the Grantura feels immediately alive, never stiff or sterile. Plug it in, and the Throbak ER-Custom pickups deliver everything from warm jazz cleans to articulate rock crunch, all with incredible touch sensitivity and harmonic richness. The simplified control layout (2 volumes, 1 tone, 3-way switch) keeps it focused and intuitive, while the tone spectrum leans toward expanded vintage 335 territory: more clarity, more sparkle, and more dynamic range without losing the soul.
