We are fortunate to score a few Lawrence Smart mandolin-family instruments each year—a mix of both new instruments directly from Lawrence, and the occasional preowned mandolin. His instruments always have a distinctive look, and stand apart in sound and feel as well. A signature hybrid X bracing system, generous neck carve, and a satin varnish finish all conspire to convey a robust, "great old mandolin" sound that has become Smart's calling card.

This 2019 A is a wonderful example of his work. In feel, look, and sound it is a unique instrument among our current offerings. It comes to us in very good overall condition, and represents an exceptional value in a handmade contemporary A style from a venerated mandolin maker.
