This Red Tail Hawk one's got some really cool specs that make it a truly killer example of the High Spirit offset. The natural Ash body sports a custom made acrylic dark tortoise pickguard, and is loaded with a hybrid set of Danger Dog (neck) and Hot Dog (bridge) pickups and of course, Connor's custom designed bridge a tailpiece.
The neck is a beautifully carved piece of roasted Figured Maple and features an Ebony fingerboard, which is a first for us! The one thing we noticed is how seamlessly the Ebony board transitioned into the black-painted top of the headstock - super sleek! The medium C carve is super comfortable with a nice taper as well.
The tone of this one is really what jumps out - the bridge pickup has got some really nice clarity and has this upper mid bark that isn't fatiguing, and the neck pickup has the bounce and chime of a great Strat pickup but with more top end extension. The Ash body and Ebony board are definitely playing a role here - notes feel a little more alive sounding with just more overall presence. This Red Tail Hawk is especially great sounding with some dirt - it's got great cut and definition that would work perfectly in a band mix.
As far as offsets go, most don't get as light as this one. Coming in under 7.5 lbs, it's exceptionally comfortable and well balanced.
When you factor in all these details, it's impressive just how much guitar you get for the money. We all know it's not just about price, but High Spirits continue to be one of the best values in the small shop guitar world.
