1 of 250 builds to commemorate Gary Rossington's famed "Bernice", the '59 Les Paul Standard he used throughout his days in Lynyrd Skynyrd, this 2002 Gary Rossington '59 LP is one of the premier examples of an early Custom Shop Murphy Aged LP.
What To Know
Here's a Les Paul you don't see every day...
This 2002 Gibson Custom Shop Gary Rossington 1959 Les Paul Standard is one of the more revered (and limited) artist models ever offered by Gibson. Built in the early days of the Custom Shop, this Rossington LP captures the vibe of Gary's original '59 in convincing fashion, with an expertly executed Tom Murphy aged finish to boot.
The guitar has remained original throughout, including all hardware and the original '57 Classic humbuckers. It suffered a minor headstock fracture that was professionally repaired by luthier Micah Plante. It's only visible from the back as the fracture didn't travel through the peghead veneer. An interesting twist of irony is that the guitar left the factory with two small screws mounted on either side of the truss rod cover to simulate the headstock repair of Gary's original LP. One might say it's even more authentic! In all seriousness, the guitar is 100% stable and fully functional.
Limited to just 250 builds, this one came out of the Custom Shop early on as the 25th to be serialized. The figured Maple top and one-piece Mahogany body are stunning examples of the great tonewoods that were used on this run as well. This is a MONSTER sounding and playing guitar - authoritative and punchy with fantastic definition. A wonderfully full C carve that skirts between R8 and R9 profiles is a total joy to play.
