Mid/late 90s examples of Gibson's famed Les Paul Reissues have amassed a cult following for their authenticity and Golden Era vibe. If the "Good Wood" Era is factual, it's perpetuated by the likes of this R8 from '97.

Step aside all you flametops! This plain top R8 is here to stake its claim on Mount LP. You'd swear upon picking this guitar up for the first time that it was chambered - it weighs just under 8.5lbs! Combining its light weight with a full but comfortable rounded C neck and a pair of Classic 57 humbuckers will give you about as true an LP tone as you'll find in a modern-built example.

This R8 doesn't have much to show in the way of wear as it approaches its 30th birthday. There's a small indentation on the back of the body and a light worming mark on the treble side waist, but beyond that, there's really nothing to point out. The original frets are in excellent condition, hardware is in great shape, and the finish is still rich and vibrant.

Despite its top, the tone is anything but plain. It's got the midrange presence that cuts through a band mix with ease, and a woody top end that is a calling card of vintage LP DNA.
