The original violin-style mandolin from this highly regarded luthier. A unique, woody and warm voice and singular style to match.
Why We Love This
As firmly established as Joe Cleary's beloved Campanella mandolins are today, back in 2004 Joe was a young luthier just on the cusp of realizing his vision. This beautiful F was Joe Cleary's fourth mandolin overall, but the first built with violin-style, overhung edges. Folks, he nailed it right out of the gate. A few of the cosmetic details would change with later instruments, but the overall design principle, aesthetic, and, most importantly, the tone is all here. Quite wood-forward, with very little metal in the sound, this is literally classic Campanella. Playability is excellent, aided by a nicely rounded V-profile, speed neck and low action.
A notable instrument in the context of modern mandolin lutherie, we are thrilled to have it here on offer. A one-owner instrument, this Campanella F comes to us in very good condition, direct from Joe, who was equally excited to revisit this old friend.
