1974 Fender Telecaster Custom just in on consignment!
With enough battle scars to prove it's been putting in the work over the years, it's got the mark(s) of a true road warrior Tele. However, its playability remains impressive, and its tone even moreso. It's easy to associate play wear with a great guitar on most days, and there's no fooling us with this one!
The Ash body shows off some very nice grain, and may very well be one piece, as we haven't been able to locate a seam that would argue against that. It seems especially rare to find one-piece bodies in this era, but it does happen. It's not unusually heavy, either; we're getting just a bit over 8lbs on our scale. It's a comfortable weight, a feels a little lighter than it measures.
The neck is a super comfy Medium C profile with a leaner taper and original frets. It plays so well! Some of these 70s neck carves can be real winners- this one's got it.
A replaced bridge pickup and wiring harness - all work done in the early 1980s based on the DiMarzio/Centralab pot codes - are perhaps the the only notable changes made on this guitar. It shows evidence of a some body damage on the treble side lower bout, suggesting the guitar fell off of a strap at some point. It's a pretty clean guitar otherwise.
It's an approachable, vibey Tele Custom that reminds us to never overlook this period from Fender. There are lots of great 70s guitars out there- here's proof!
