Product information

The A-style mandolins made by Will Kimble may be the best bang for the buck in the small-shop world: their mix of old-world tone and modern projection makes them the instrument of choice for many pro players in need of one instrument that sounds at home in multiple genres.

Will Kimble's fine craftsmanship is on full display with this excellent A5 mandolin we took in recently. For starters, just look at the figure on the one-piece sugar maple back that Will had available for this build! And, of course, the tone -- we've had plenty of Kimble mandolins here in the shop, and they never fail to impress with their lively, focused mid-range bark, good overall balance, and strong projection.

This A5 has a voice that is woody and on the drier side, making for a great sounding instrument that would work beautifully in a bluegrass jam. Rubner tuners and a James tailpiece round out the hardware on this build, and the original TKL hardshell case is included.
