This 1964 Epiphone Coronet represent's Gibson's answer to the SG Junior, with a slim contoured Mahogany body that delivers the same great Junior-style tone dressed up in a different suit.

Why We Love This

Epiphone's Coronet model has its roots planted firmly in the company's rich and storied history dating back decades prior to the solidbody variant that was settled on in 1958. A Coronet in the 1930s would identify as one of the company's lap steels, and would change again to a small body archtop in 1941. After Gibson acquired Epiphone in 1957, however, the Coronet name would take on an entirely different model and style of instrument, just like the one you see before you.
This 1964 Epiphone Coronet represent's Gibson's answer to the SG Junior under the rebranded sister company. The slim contoured 1 3/8" thick Mahogany body, Mahogany neck, and single P90 pickup follows the same pattern as the SG Junior, but the body and headstock shapes redefine the Junior-style aesthetic as to not cannibalize Gibson's popular versions. For those in the know, a 60s Epiphone is a considerable value - you're essentially getting the same guitar built in the same factory with the same woods, electronics, and finish work, all with a different name on the headstock.

A super light and resonant guitar at its core, this Coronet has the same sort of liveliness and dynamic response all great Junior-style guitars seem to possess. Bright and punchy, with top end clarity that'll hang with you through the entire travel on the volume pot. Lots of great tonal shades are available with a slight tweak of those two knobs, and nothing to get in the way of a truly excellent playing experience. Expertly refretted by Laurent Brondel and set up with comfortable low action, it makes for a great rock guitar that can dabble into country, folk, or blues with ease.

The guitar has been previously refinished in Black over the original Silver Fox finish (which can be seen mostly on the back of the neck and on edges of the body cavities). The work was very well done and looks quite authentic. Priced with aftermarket hardshell case.
