Product information

Simply put: this is a great sounding guitar that would more than satisfy anyone on the hunt for a fabled pre-war 000-28.

TME is pleased to offer this lovely-sounding 1937 Martin 000-28 for sale. It's a rarity amongst vintage Martins, sporting a few minor issues yet still retaining a lustrous appearance and tone -- a perfect fit for a player or collector who shies away from the top-of-market price tier yet still demands beautiful cosmetics and great sound. The consigning owner acquired it privately; and before that, it was owned by the same player for many decades. We cannot find a record of it having been on the open market in the modern era. The voice is everything anyone in search of a pre-war Martin 000-28 would hope to discover. It's got a beautiful darkness about it, with very lively and complex overtones in each register. The bass is powerful and focused; the midrange is robust, dry and present; and the high end contains a silky roundness that really comes to life under a flatpick. Simply put: this is a great sounding guitar that would more than satisfy anyone on the hunt for a fabled pre-war 000-28.

Condition: the most notable thing about this 000-28, in terms of its current condition, is finish overspray to the back, sides, and a portion of the top. Old crack repairs in the back and bass side were beautifully repaired & neatly disguised; and the overspray must've been done in conjunction with concealing those repairs. The top has two cracks, which are also well repaired and oversprayed in a similar fashion. There's also a hairline crack near the treble side of the fingerboard tongue, which does not go through the wood (in that area of the top, the finish is original with no touch-ups). The bridge and bridge plate are original, though the bridge has been sanded down slightly. All other structural components are original; and the neck finish is original throughout. Priced with a modern hardshell case, though we do have Calton Cases available. Expedited shipping required; on consignment.
