1969 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop just in on consignment!

The first real electric "reissue" Gibson produced was the Les Paul. After an 8 year hiatus, it returned as a Standard, Deluxe, and Custom, with the former two models featuring the beloved Goldtop finish and the latter keeping in line with the 'Black Beauty' aesthetics of the Les Paul models.

With a number of manufacturing changes happening between 1968-1970, the LPs from this era fall into a number of different categories in terms of desirability and collectability. This '69 appears to be from earlier in the year, with transitional features such as the larger headstock size, blockier Gibson inlay, and 3-piece Mahogany neck. It still, however, retains the 1-piece Mahogany body with Maple cap, which changed to the "pancake" Mahogany body (two slimmer Mahogany pieces pancaked together) by about mid year.

Having left the factory in the Deluxe format, it once originally outfitted with mini humbuckers. The all-too-common modification for these LPs was to rout them for full-size humbuckers as was the case with this one. The top was also refinished by Lay's Guitar Shop in Akron, OH, re-establishing its gold glory.

Most of the hardware has remained original, including the double-line Kluson tuners, Pat # ABR-1 bridge (with replaced saddles), and thick seam stopbar tailpiece. The frets are original and in great shape, and the neck feels much more like a late 50s carve with a slightly meatier taper. Notice this neck also predates Gibson's incorporation of the volute - another desirable trait of these earlier '69 builds. Smit's handwound humbuckers are currently in the guitar; both are spec'ed with Alnico 2 magnets and sound excellent in the guitar.

Priced with vintage aftermarket hardshell case (one broken latch).
