There is nothing not to love about this 1952 Gibson SJ-200 if you're a vintage guitar aficionado. Tone, condition, pedigree ... only the highest marks are available for this guitar. And if we can be allowed a moment of pure, hardcore indulgence ~ just look at this thing! The J-200 enjoys an iconic status only shared by a couple other flattop guitars, and this is certainly the cleanest, most well-preserved example of the model we've ever had in the shop.

This instrument was acquired from the daughter of the original owner; and it's been in Massachusetts its whole life. Said original owner was a singer-songwriter and state cultural liason of some repute in the 60's and 70's, and his Gibson guitars were his prized possessions.

Pride of ownership abounds in every inch of this J-200, which looks like it was wiped down and put neatly in its case after every use. There's a small area of wear on the bass side of the neck, in the first position, where one's thumb would wrap whilst making cowboy chords. The beginnings of a pickguard crack are visible, though this blemish is superficial. Our shop has reglued the wings of the bridge, and adjusted the saddle height.

This guitar is very playable, with a functioning truss rod, and needs no setup work. The original frets have plenty of life in them. The sound is sublime, with the sort of power, focus, and three-dimensional chime that have made the J-200 the choice of rhythm-guitar-playing country vocalists for the last 70 years. Priced with its original hardshell case and accompanying hang tag.
