Product information

This 1941 Martin D-18 is the very definition of a player's guitar. It was purchased several decades ago by a long-time client who was eager to get into the vintage Martin landscape, but couldn't then afford a pristine, collectible guitar. It now represents the same opportunity for someone else. Nearly everything that could be done to a guitar, in terms of repair & modification, has been done to this one--yet the structure retains its featherlight build and overall strength. And most importantly, its great tone has not been compromised. To be fair, a more aggressive bluegrass guitarist may find its headroom a touch limited compared to an all-original 1941 D-18. But for anyone else, this guitar delivers the clear, woody sound and fullness of response that simply can't be found in a new instrument.

While this D-18 is still in good condition, it's had significant repair work and likely isn't suitable for collectors who shy away from guitars with issues. The whole instrument has been refinished; the fingerboard, bridge, and bridge plate have been replaced; and multiple cracks in the top and treble side have been repaired. The tuners and nut are also replacements. All that said, we shouldn't lose sight of the big picture: this guitar's sound is truly excellent, and represents a golden opportunity for a player looking for an entry point into the scalloped-braced vintage Martin dreadnought market.
