Product information

This 1945 Martin 000-18 was just taken into the shop on trade; and it represents a good opportunity for someone who's longed to break into the vintage Martin scene without spending pre-war money. Made just a year after the end of the scalloped-brace era, when the Martin company moved to slightly heavier 'tapered' brace construction, this 000-18 is truly a great sounding example of the model -- with punch and volume to spare. The voice is warm and dry, as you'd expect from a Martin that's nearly 80 years old, but the tapered construction gives the instrument extra clarity and focus.

The guitar has had a recent neck reset, and plays cleanly up and down the neck. Our shop has installed a new nut, to replace an older replacement with too-narrow spacing. The back has been refinished, and the back and sides show light overspray. The bridge is original, and the bridge plate appears so as well. It's likely that a luthier has thinned the neck a bit at some point in the past: it feels a bit thinner in the first position than other Martins from this period, and the neck finish shows signs of alteration in that area. To reiterate, the takeaway with this guitar is: excellent sounding instrument for a player who doesn't mind a few alterations. Priced with new hard case from the "Original Case Co."
