Product information

This 1954 Martin 00-17 isn't *exactly* in time-capsule condition -- but it's darn close. And remember -- the all-Mahogany guitars in Martin's lineup were their least expensive, student model instruments when they were in production. They were made to be played, with a stripped-down, austere look, but crafted with the same fastidious attention to detail as a D-28. This particular 00-17 is a great-sounding example of the model, featuring a warm, robust voice and a beautifully mellow note attack thanks to a not-to-tall saddle and 70 years of graceful aging. It'd be a fantastic first guitar for anyone thinking of entering the vintage flattop market.

Condition: as mentioned, this guitar is exceedingly clean. The structure is all-original and in perfect health. It's been played, and does show signs of pick wear on the top alongside a few scattered scratches and dings (please see our photos). The saddle has likely been lowered at some point in the past; and while it's not what anyone would call tall, the resulting mellow neck set has a positive effect on the instrument's warmth. The action sits just a hair over 3/32" (bass side) and 2/32" (treble side). There's a bit of room to adjust it, though it sounds so good as it is we've elected to leave it alone. Priced with vintage lined chipboard case from the period of the guitar's production.
