Product information

We've had this 1953 Martin 0-18 in the shop once before; and it's a real treat to have it again. Quite simply, it's one of the cleanest such guitars we've ever seen, in nearly-untouched condition. And its sound is beyond exemplary for the model. Martins from 1953 are coveted for their non-Sitka Spruce tops (often labeled "Mystery" tops) -- and while there's no way to prove anything short of extracting some wood fibers and having them tested forensically, this guitar's tone and top color certainly suggest it's a Red Spruce soundboard. The voice is incredibly full and warm for such a small guitar, with beautiful balance and fat, round trebles. It can sound like a cliche to make this comparison, but it's true -- this guitar will stand up to a pre-war 0-18 in boxing match. Will it win? Maybe, maybe not -- that depends on the player, what they value, and their budget.

Condition: for a vintage guitar, this one's in the "wonderful" category. The bridge was reglued by luthier, Matt Arcara, approximately 6 years ago. A new saddle was also fit at the time of that repair. Other than that, all the guitar's structural components are original and in beautiful condition. There are no cracks; and if anyone has ever performed a neck reset (it doesn't appear to have had one), the procedure was performed with surgical precision. The action is spot-on 3/32" (bass side) and 2/32" (treble side) under tension of light-gauge strings, and the neck is straight. Playability is smooth & easy all over the fingerboard. Priced with a non-original hardshell case. Expedited shipping only at online checkout. Interested parties may contact us for Ground options and an in-hand description!
