Product information

An oddball in the best way, this 1956 National 1033 lap steel blends resonator punch with Hawaiian steel vibes—perfect for studio work or creative live setups.

1956 National Reso-Phonic Model 1033 Resonator Lap Steel guitar in original Red finish.

One of National's rather esoteric and unique mid-century offerings, the 1033 resonator lap steel straddles the line between conventional early 20th century resonator guitar and Hawaiian steel guitar, all buttoned up in one interesting instrument!

With its single 8 1/4" resonator cone and 22" scale length, it has a low to moderate amount of acoustic volume with a more focused and punchy resonator sound. It makes for a great recording instrument, and would likely welcome an aftermarket pickup for ease of use in a live setting.

We replaced the original crumbling tuners with a fresh set of reissue Klusons, and replaced the original damaged cone with a new replacement from the fine folks at Beard Guitars. It's a super fun guitar that gives you a little taste of a Dobro sound with a lap steel playing experience.
