Atkin J43 Black Heavy Aged

Atkin's unique scalloped bracing configuration and super-thin aged lacquer finish result in a guitar that's surprisingly open and big-sounding (they've got a lot more oomph in the low end than you'd expect).

The J43 is the flagship slope-shouldered dreadnought in the Atkin lineup. With huge low end, a crisp high-midrange, and fat, round, trebles, the J43 should be a serious contender for anyone chasing the tone of a fabled "Banner" era dreadnought. A particularly nice sounding example of the model!

We also admire Atkin's embrace of a heavily aged finish. At the end of the day, what's more important -- being able to see your reflection in a guitar's finish, or being inspired by its sound when you pick it up? Vibe. Tone. Playability.
